See What Saskatchewan Has to Offer

Wilderness canoe trips into Saskatchewan's pristine northern reaches — the old-fashioned way

Saskatchewan, the Old-Fashioned Way

Besides Jiu-Jitsu, Saskatchewan's wild spaces are our passion. Exclusively led by our Head Instructor Brock, we explore Saskatchewan's pristine Northern reaches the old-fashioned way… by canoe.

Part of an active and healthy lifestyle always includes the outdoors. We like to explore it thoroughly and love the challenge of self-propelled travel through the wilderness.

Not So Flat After All

Forever characterized by flat endless prairie — but few know just what a gem the northern portion of the province really is

Beautiful Lakes

Vast, clean, and often empty. Northern Saskatchewan holds some of the most beautiful lake country anywhere on the continent.

Rivers & Rapids

Rivers full of rapids and fast current — the kind of moving water that makes self-propelled travel feel like a proper expedition.

Waterfalls

Hidden waterfalls tucked deep into the bush — most of them only reachable the way we travel: by paddle, portage, and time.

Wildlife

Moose, eagles, loons, and bears — wildlife in its real, unfenced setting. You don't see it from a roadside pullout. You earn it.

Real Solitude

Saskatchewan is one of the few places left in the world with this much untouched wilderness. Days can pass without seeing another soul.

Untouched Country

With the right skills, the old saying holds true: "If you're Canadian, you can canoe trip." This is country built for it.

What If I've Never Done This Before?

Part of the theme behind this program is to further challenge yourself — getting out into a new setting and working on new skills is how we all grow

It's the Same on the Mats as It Is on the River

You don't need any prior canoeing or wilderness experience to come on a trip. Beginners are part of the plan. We take you through the critical skills and safety precautions before you ever push off shore.

We provide roughly 90% of the gear you'll need — canoes, paddles, safety equipment, and the bigger pieces of camping kit. You bring yourself, a few personal items, and the willingness to try something new.

Trips are picked to match your skill level. New paddlers don't get thrown into whitewater. Experienced trippers don't get held back. The outdoors is a place everyone should be able to enjoy if they wish — our mission is just to make it a little easier to give it a try.

What We Cover

Critical Paddling Skills Basic strokes, steering, and reading water — the fundamentals that keep you moving
Safety Precautions What to do, what to avoid, and how to keep the trip fun and uneventful
90% of the Gear Provided Canoes, paddles, PFDs, and the big pieces of camp kit — we have it covered
Trips Suited to You Routes chosen to match your current skill level — never thrown in over your head
A Willingness to Try That's the only thing you really need to bring

A members-only program. Outdoor Adventures is exclusively for current Expedition BJJ members and is led personally by Head Instructor Brock. Trip dates, routes, and details are shared at the gym — ask Brock to be added to the list for the next one.

Common Questions

Do I need to be a current Expedition BJJ member to join?

Yes. Outdoor Adventures is a members-only program — it's open exclusively to current Expedition BJJ students and led personally by our Head Instructor Brock. If you're not a member yet, your free trial class is the place to start. Reach out on the contact page and we'll get you on the mats first.

What if I've never canoed or done a wilderness trip before?

That's part of the point. We take you through the critical paddling skills and safety precautions before the trip, pick routes that suit your current skill level, and provide roughly 90% of the gear. The willingness to try something new is the only real prerequisite — exactly like stepping onto the mats for your first class.

What gear do I need to bring?

We provide roughly 90% of what's needed — canoes, paddles, PFDs, and the larger pieces of camping kit. You're responsible for personal items: appropriate clothing, footwear, sleep system, and food preferences. A full personal-gear list is shared once you're booked onto a specific trip so you know exactly what to pack.

Where do the trips go?

Northern Saskatchewan. Lakes, rivers, rapids, and waterfalls in some of the most untouched wilderness left on the continent. Specific routes change trip to trip — chosen by Brock to match the group's experience and the time of year. Expect real solitude and properly remote country.

How do I find out about the next trip?

Trip dates, routes, and details are shared directly through the academy. The easiest way is to talk to Brock at the gym and ask to be added to the list for the next trip. Members on the list get first crack at every expedition that comes up.

Ready for the North?

Trips fill on a first-ask basis. Talk to Brock at the gym — or reach out — to be added to the list for the next expedition.
